What is a Hydraulic Hand Pump?

The hydraulic hand pump is a device that is used to move fluids. It works by converting the mechanical energy of a piston to hydraulic energy. The hydraulic hand pump can be used to transfer liquids, gasses and slurries.

The device has two cylinders, the lower and the upper. The lower cylinder is fitted with a piston that can be pushed back and forth by means of a lever. When it’s pushed down, it creates an area of high pressure in the lower cylinder, which forces liquid up into the upper cylinder. When it’s released, this area of high pressure disappears and all that remains is atmospheric pressure pushing liquid down in the upper cylinder. This causes liquid to flow back down into the lower cylinder and repeat the process again.

One cylinder is called the plunger, which moves up and down inside the other cylinder called the barrel. The plunger has a piston that fits tightly inside it and forms an airtight seal with it. The barrel has an opening at its top where fluid enters when it is pushed in by the plunger's movement up and down in it; this forms an airtight seal too because of atmospheric pressure on top of the plunger pushing back against atmospheric pressure from below.
